Why Is One Sprinkler Zone Not Working?

The controller may be off, a start time or rain sensor may block watering, a wire or solenoid may have failed, or the valve may have no water.

Start by comparing the working zones

Try one manual run from the controller. Note whether the display advances, whether the valve clicks and whether any head rises. If every zone fails, check the main supply and controller power first; one silent zone points toward its station, wiring or valve.

Inspection and repair steps

  1. Verify the program, rain sensor and station assignment.
  2. Measure station output and inspect the common wire and solenoid.
  3. Check that the valve receives water, repair the failed part and run the full zone again.

Watering and maintenance resources

UC Master Gardeners advise monthly checks of heads, leaks and pressure. That is useful in Riverside County, where a dry patch can become obvious quickly in warm weather, but plant stress alone does not identify the electrical fault.

Cost and next step

The repair cost depends on the fault, replacement parts, access and any digging or restoration needed. Ask for the proposed scope and estimate before work begins. Our sprinkler repair cost guide explains the main factors.
